This fall, the small group of dedicated students, Crime Victim Services' Anti-Violence Teen Ambassadors, worked together to create a special public service announcement to encourage teens to understand the connection between substance abuse and violence.
According to the CDC, drug and alcohol abuse is a factor that increases the risk of not one, but eight different forms of violence, and it's impacting approximately 1 in 3 teens today.
"Our Teen Ambassadors want you to know that we can change our culture of violence by taking small steps toward health. If you are struggling with substance use, it's not too late to get some help," said Erin Ostling Burkholder, director of outreach and prevention and Teen Ambassador Program adviser. Recovery services are available in our local community and can be found by calling 211, a free community resource and referral line sponsored by United Way of Greater Lima.
Crime Victim Services' Anti-Violence Teen Ambassadors work to create a safer community through: encouraging and uplifting others, working with communities, being drug free & sober, leading by example, and valuing all life. Students meet the second Monday of the month at the CVS Main St. office. Reach out for more information.
